I had an F-250 '04 Lariat Extneded cab with a 6.0L and loved it. I need to get another. Will stay with the diesel but any year and size recommendations? I know the F-250's reecently had poor fuel milage but understand they were corrected. Don't think I'll be able to afford a new one but when did the "GREEN" diesels come out? Just last year or the past couple years?
If you are going to stay with Ford and want to keep the price down, get a 06 or 07. Plan on doing the usual head gaskets, oil cooler, EGR cooler. You should factor that into the price right off the bat. Check oasis and have your scan gauge in your pocket when looking.

not sure what you mean . Diesel has always been green here in Tx.
I was reffereing to the fuel re-burner add to the engines. I think it was in 09 they came out and those that bought them saw greatly decreased fuel milage and weren't happy.
AGE- scan tool is good idea!.
Thanks for the info 06-07. Gotta wait for the final from the insurance to see what I will be able to afford. Probably next week.
The re-burn system is exactly what I was refering to. I did hear that the new ones with the re-burn system are better but they are too far out of my price range.

Ford DPF system was only 2008-2010 the 2011 does not use DPF it uses a urea injection which has heaters in the urea tank to keep it from freezing which is around 10 deg. f. So besides worrying about quality diesel fuel you have something else to tend to once the urea tank gets low. I think it's time for the EPA be dissolved.

The 2011 have both a DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) and a DPF.
