I finished my install tonight. just need to wire up the Reverse sense to someplace that goes to 12V when I put the EX in Reverse. I'll either use something on the PAM or maybe the back-up lights. Will post picture tomorrow.
Anyway, I do not beleive these HU's will control "anything" external. They have no "data buss" to communicate with anything except an Ipod or a USB drive.
When I put in my camera and monitor I found a wire that is under the hood. It runs out of the firewall, and then under the X to the back. Runs the back up lights.
I was able to splice in there, and it worked great.
I just looked and don't have a picture of it in the album, so I will have to get it for ya tomorrow, but I think it was black/with pink tracer.
Was able to take a pic and let you see. Main group of wires that run thru firewall, mounted on inner fender under the hood.
I am new to posting here & i need some help. let me start by saying that i know nothing about wiring! i have a 2000 7.3 ex that i just switched out the head unit on. i put a clarion cx609 dd unit in using a harness adapter and the directions. my problem is that i have an "extra plug" coming from my ex and nothing to hook it to on the unit. i have discovered that this "extra plug" must light my dash, heater & rear seat controls as i have no lights now. is there another harness that will make these lights work again?
as you can tell, i have no knowledge of electrical anything. but i can follow directions so an help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

Did the factory radio have two harnesses connected to it?
The second harness does run to the rear audio controls. They most likely will not work with your after market head unit.
yes, the factory unit had two harnesses connected to it. i am not too concerned about the rear audio controls working. i do however, want my lights back... any suggestions?

Did your harness have an orange dimmer wire? Often times an after market head unit won't have a connection for the dimmer wire and it needs to be taped off so it doesn't cause a short. Verify that you don't have any lose cables and check your fuses.
I installed one of the El Cheapo Chinese Brand head units, pictured in the original post, in my Ex (2002 7.3 Limited) few weeks ago and the only wire our of the “extra plug” I used was the Lt Blue/Red wire which was for the steering wheel controls, which I don’t believe you have in a 2000 Ex. I had no issue with anything in the dash not working after I completed the install. I would agree with Eric H, it sounds like you have a loose connection or a blown fuse.
Also, a tip for anyone else who may be installing one of these El Cheapo Chinese Brand head units in an Ex with steering wheel controls. The instructions, which are clearly written by someone who has English as a second (or third) language, seem to indicate that you need to connect the wire for the first steering wheel control key (wire #9 in the original post) to the steering wheel control wire from the vehicle (the Lt Blue/Red wire in the “extra plug”) and the second steering wheel control key wire (wire #12 in the original post) should be grounded. I found that in order to make my steering wheel controls function correctly I had to hook both steering wheel control key wires (wires #9 & #12 in the original post) up to the steering wheel control wire from the vehicle (the Lt Blue/Red wire in the “extra plug”).
