auto locking hubs help
as many of you know you have to get the car to roll for them to engage.
now ive heard that the is a way to manually lock the hubs.
my questions are...
does my truck have this option?
and if so how do i do it?
Nope... to manually lock the hubs you would have to replace the automatics you have with a set of manual locking hubs. The automatics operated on centrifugal force from the axle as it spun thus negating the need to get out and manually lock them. The drawback was they become highly unreliable with age AND to get them to disengage you have to back up with the T-case in 2WD sometimes as much as fifteen feet.
Don't let the guys who have newer trucks mislead you. The newer F-series have vacuum actuated "automatic" hubs that can be over-ridden with a manual **** on the face of the hub much like the manual hubs from the Bronco era. The automatics hubs from the Bronco era are not the same and do not operate this way.
