Two weeks ago I replaced the factory radio in my 94 Bronco (radio only - standard sound system). I bought the removal tools, a new harness and got instructions from install dr. It was very easy to do and idiot proof - well I guess I'm an idiot.
I got everything done, turned on the new stereo, sounds great so I was happy. Monday morning I jumped in the Bronco to go to work @5:30 am (still dark out) turned on the lights and no dash lights. All other lights work inside and out, tested fuses they checked out. So last weekend I pulled the new stereo out and found one pinched wire orange/white stripe (illumination?), repaired that and reinstalled. Still no dash lights.
The instructions say illumination wire is orange, the new unit has orange/white stripe so I connected that to the matching one on the new wire harness. Is this wrong? All wires are color coded new stereo to new harness which plugs into the facory harness. So, I'm stumped. It would be nice to have the dimmer on the radio work but the dash lights are just a little more important.
I pulled the new stereo out again - repaired the same wire (orange/white stripe) for the second time. This time when I installed it I pushed all the wires toward the drivers side as far as I could (not much room to work).
The old fuse for dash illumination still looked good but I replaced it anyway (4amp) not sure which # it is. As g_k50 said make sure your head light switch is adjusted.
I checked it when the sun went down and sure enough it WORKED! I had a cold one (maybe 2) to celebrate.
