I want to give my truck a body lift, I don't have to worry about the bed because I have a flatbed so just the cab+front clip would be lifted
how big can I go? I would like 2" but not less than 1.5"
does anyone know of a place that I can buy just the new poly bushings, I found kits that include bolts and all but are expensive, plus I don't need extra bushings for the bed so if I bought individually I could be saving some money.
I thought about hockey pucks, but have heard they are unsafe and rot quickly
I currently have 2" add a leaf on the front so the truck is nice and level, after this body lift I have a set of MT 315x75x16's in my garage, I will buy two more and have them mounted and balanced on my duals, will a 2" spacer on the rear axle acommodate the thickness between the two mud tires on the back?
since my truck is a cab and chassis, I'm a little worried about the inner dual rubbing against the springs
I don't know what your flatbed looks like or anything, but I'm thinking you'll want to lift the bed too, I'm guessing it has a headache rack, and if you lift the cab and not the bed it will just look weird.
my flatbed sits very high and lifting the cab will not make it look goofy, has a headache rack made out of lumber, planning on making one out of steel after
I have seen body lifts made from composite ,extruded aluminum and home made 2 inch pipe with a thick washer on either end and an internal small tube to prevent center crush all welded up ,, then using a grade 5 not 8 bolt to prevent sheer
Check around a machine shop. When I put a T-18+205 TC in an 80's body I had to put a body lift of 2.25 inches on. I made mine out of solid aluminum. I took scrap pieces and turned them down on my lathe. Machine shop may have some laying around a hook you up pretty cheap. I have found that some machine shops that are into production work don't mind things like this because it is something different. It never hurts to ask.
get a kit, dont go hockey pucks. only thing you gotta deal with is, the engine will hit the firewall. at 2" the head hits the firewall on the drivers side. other thing with the body lift is, it comes with enough to do the cab and bed, so 1/3 of the kit you wont use. make sure the kit comes with the steering extension and the bumper relocating bracket.
joe, your firewall is beat in. remember when i had u take a picture of it for me. and for my truck, well, it still hits lol. it rattles and makes noise like a ***** until i get around to knocking it in. 1.5" wont hit, 2" will. my neighbor installed the 2 on his and it does the same as mine.... the transfer case shifter and zf5 shifter i had to build lift and clock brackets. had to move them up and back. if you leave it where its at then it cant go into 2h. parking brake cable is fine. i suggest doing new body bushings while your there though.
You will need two sets of spacers for the rear tires.
One against the axle, one between the wheels.
Dual wheel trucks get expensive to run wide tires on.
The 315 tires probably will not fit the wheels you have now, they are probably 6.5 or 7 inches wide.
235 wide tires should be very close between the tires, 285 wide should not fit without spacers between the wheels since they should be touching between the tires.
You would need 6 wheels , 3 pairs of spacers and a pair of tires, that looks like a couple grand to me.
