Just put in a new rear u joint and noticed some slop. My u joint is moving back and forth between the tabs, it is actually sliding inside the caps, seems like the tabs are spread apart to far. Any idea what would cause this ? The trucks a 2001 ext cab f250 4x4. Thanks, Ryan
c&b stand for cap & bolt? If so then yes the straps hold the caps tight the movement is inside the u joint. It seems like the joint isn't wide enough by 1/8 inch.
no movement at all in the drive shaft yoke its all in the rear end yoke. Its almost like I could slide a penny between the u joint cap and the ear that holds the caps on.
Man, that's a head scratcher. But it might be possible to push the other caps in far enough to not have movement in the shaft yoke. I think I would caliper the old joint, and then the new one to see if they are near the same. I am like you 1/8" seems to much.
I had the rear yoke U-joint out of a truck today to grease the spline joint. I popped both caps off the U-joint and shot a dab of grease in each cap while I was in there.
When I re-assembled everything, there wasn't a hint of cross-slop in that joint, and the excess grease just squeezed out.
