Absolutely no boost.

Well I got stuck in a few feet of snow. So I was spinning all 4 trying to rock it out.

Then I herd a sound like a intercooler hose blew. Opened the hood and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Eventually got out and I got back on the road and my turbo stopped building any boost at all.

I just cleaned the turbo out a few weeks ago and it was working great.

Any ideas?

Any one have any ideas?

Guarantee you blew a hose (or it cracked).

If it is cracked, often the crack is where you cannot see.

Worse case --- intercooler cracked.

I blew a hose and lost a clamp once... walked into hardware store, put 2 garden variety hose clamps (like for home dryers) on it... and it got me home.. until it was replaced with the proper clamp.

Which hose to really check for? I know that blue one that connects the silver pipe to the turbo is leaking. Has been for sometime.

But will that really make me build no boost?

All turbo hoses. Start at air cleaner, work forward to turbo, check each one on the intake side.

Most likely leak is from turbo onwards to intercooler, then to intake.

On the exhaust side, do same check from exhaust manifold.

If you have engine running, often you can hear the air hissing out.

If you have a blue hose that is already leaking.. you got your prime suspect.

With the engine running, start at the turbo and work down to the intercooler inlet, then from the cooler outlet back up to the intake elbow. Somewhere there should be a significant amount of air coming out. It's also remotely possible to crack an intercooler if you developed way too much boost. How much boost did you show when it popped?

Also, check the MAP hose going from the rear passenger side of the intake to the MAP sensor mounted at the back of the engine compartment. If the hose blew off, you wouldn't be reading boost on any OBD-II style boost gauge.

Last year I hit a 5 ft drift and it completely plugged my air filter. I know it has nothing to do with the noise you heard but it has to be able to get air to build pressure. Just a thought.

So no one thinks my turbo is blown?

I was only building 18/22 Ive always had it build that.

I'm gonna check all the things you guys told me to.

I know I wasn't building any boost at all. I had very little power to move.

But could that little blue hose cause this much trouble?

Turbo blown is way down on the check list.

It is always possible.. but lets do the easy stuff first.

Agreed.

I will go out there and check everything. 2 degrees with the wind here.

If it's the blue hose I should feel or hear air?

Get a mirror.. and do a visual inspection for cracks, etc.

You should also hear it and feel it -- wind if the engine is running.

You guys were absolutely right!

I walked outside popped the hood. Started at the air box. Looked underneath it at that black cooler hose. There it was popped right off. Didn't reconnect it yet started the truck and yup sure enough that was the noise.

Thanks all x's 10.

Think it is your lucky day.

If that clamp flew into the belts etc...you could have been in for a very expensive repair.

I had a clamp come off.. and was quite annoyed until I realized that had the clamp got trapped and mangled pulleys, belts, I would be in for $$$

2 hardware store clamps later.. I was going.

Proper repairs days later.

Happy new year!

Let me ask you this...what would cause that to blow off? A bad clamp?

Well... the suspects are.. in order of appearance:

The idiot who checked how tight it was last (me) because I wanted the hose to be a bit higher.

The fella who had it off just before that.

Oh... since that failure mode, I fashioned a neat little safety device that holds the clamp in place (a length of string) in the event of the hose blowing off again.

The idea is to ensure:

a) clamp do not go into belts, pulleys, etc.

b) the clamp can be found.

A 5 cent mod...
