Took my FX4 through the woods on the snow filled roads, and for a long crew cab, it did a good job. I had the locker engaged with the traction control as dis engaged as it would let me and I had no problems. I was initially concerned because of the 157" wheel base, and the touchy trac ctrl, but I held my own with the Jeep guys.
I was @ my in-laws this weekend in Flemington, NJ. Got about 8-10" with some decent drifts. Left there about 9am today to come back to VA. First 40 miles were slow but loved how the '06 handled. Hope that everyone is safe and that you have a Happy New Year!
I was in Maryland on sunday for Christmas with my parents. Loaded up my wife and daughter at 7pm to drive home, Maryland and Delaware were not a problem, held 65mph because of visability. Once we crossed the Delaware Memorial bridge, the accumulation stated and 295 looked like it hadn't been touched by the plows. put the truck in 4x4 and ran at 40 mph, no problem and kept my 18.5 mpg calculated by the lie o meter. felt bad after passing some cars that got what looked like a white out behind my truck. I thought my old explorer was the cats meow with the auto 4x4, but traction control and
4x4 in the 2010 F150 is great.

We got about 13 inches here in Hampton, Va. Very unusual for us. I was off yesterday and had to carry mail in it today. What a fricken PITA. Icy roads and walk ways make for treacherous walking. Anyway, my 2010 Focus is pretty darned good in the snow.
This is my first winter since 1986 that I have been without a 4x4. My 2011 F-150 will be in my driveway long before the next winter sets in.

We live on a little bit of a hill in the woods so everything we have is 4x4. I told the wife along time ago, you might only need 4x4 a few times a year but having it when you need it is priceless. I'll never own another truck without 4wd for sure. Be safe on your route Tim.

We ended up with about 8 inches total out here Tim. A lot of it drifted much deeper though. Off topic here but will the USPS let you wear YakTrax on your boots? If so, get a set. We make them standard issue to our folks and they work amazingly well. I know they've saved me from having to fill out worker's comp related paperwork several times: YakTrax

Yep....me too. I don't live in the sticks anymore but I vowed a long time ago to never be without at least one 4wd vehicle. My truck is 4wd and the wife's Denali is AWD.
The wife had an 06 LR3 that was NOT that great in snow, then an 04 Explorer AWD Limited with the 4.6 that was better but now she has an 06 BMW X5 AWD I-6 that is a beast in the snow! This is not an advertisement, but merely to tell you what my wife felt most comfortable driving in the snow. She had an 02 Yukon before the LR3 and that did very well, she also felt safe in that, FWIW.
Yeah, the Denali is all the time AWD which is better for my wife....not having to try to switch in and out of 4WD, etc. And it goes very well through the snow.

That's what I love about our 06 Explorer with auto 4x4 and traction control. Wife can just drive it.
