ya know thats what my pops was sayin, but the old man i bought the truck off of was doin all these crazy things with the wiring, like its all jumbled around and ****, all taped up so i dont know were the hell im going ya know, but thats my thoughts too, i just need a wiring diagram or something so i can know whats going on, you wouldnt by any chance know were i can find one do ya?
well, where i would start is at the solenoid. i've had wires cook at the solenoid and i had no power. took me a couple days before i realized it and fixed everything. from there, i'd work my way to the ignition or the alty
sorry, i don't happen to have a wiring diagram, but the wiring is somewhat straightforward. the only really complicated part of the wiring is the ignition module, and i'm talking about the inside, not outside
First off, I would take a long, hard look at the alt. wiring. That is where it started. Check your grounds, ALL OF THEM; take them off and make sure you have clean metal beneath them. Then, I'd take the new alt. to the auto p. store and have them test it. If it is charging, you need to charge your battery (clean the posts) and re-install. Get it started and charging, then you can redo the wiring to original.
check the solenoid & voltage regulator & have Advance an them check the alternator & starter an check the battery & battery cables. Maybe it drained the battery also. An check all connections also what bout the ignition switch itself going out?
Start with the 16 ga fuseable link from the solenoid to the fat 12 ga black with yellow stripe wire. It will lead to a 3 hole plug with a red and yellow wire. The red and yellow are your ammeter gauge or charge warning light wires. The fat black with yellow stripe is your cab main power wire. Without power to the black/yellow wire your truck is dead. 10 bucks says you have a shorted or worn out and failed fuseable link. You can get a new fuseable link wire at most auto stores.
