Finally getting around to changing this out, going to a limited slip from a Non. Anyways have 2 issues, broke the ears off the plug going into the front top of the rear end and where the block is mounted to the rear end that splits the brake line into a " T ", the hollow bolt is rusted to that block. I got it to break loose from the axle housing and stripped the head of the bolt. The rubber vacuum line goes up to a steel one - looks like engine vacuum. Anyways this attaches at a bed rail above the rear end - if I could get that off, I could deal with the bolt and block at my bench rather than underneath. Anybody know what kind of connection at that bed rail - rubber to steel line ? I had enough of it when I quit today .... The plug - can I get one of those at auto parts store or do you guys have a DIY suggestion for a repair ?
Everything else is going ok, replacing to leaf's at the same time ...
If you're talking about the rubber hose that slips over the hollow bolt, that's a vent hose. It just vents the rear end to the outside, and is clipped to the frame by a metal spring clip. It doesn't attach to anything.
Re fire the leafs and add some more. Don't overlook the ' U ' bolts. They are only good for one time use. They won't torque down properly if re using old ones. That's what the spring shop told me. They also suggested using 5/8 ' U ' bolts. A step up in size over stock.
Refire the leafs ? Not sure what you mean ... reinforce ? Anyways got it out this morning, overnight soaking helped. There are actually 2 lines one which is vented to the atmosphere and the other which works off engine vacuum. I am considering going with the stock 3 leafs then maybe add air shock setup. If no load it won't be as harsh ... comments ?
Re fire means the spring shop heats the metal and re shapes it back to factory. Springs do go flat to some degree. I've added more leafs to both rigs and what a difference.
Well looks like my local spring shop is closed for the holidays. I reassembed what I have and it looks like I have an inch or so difference at the rear bumper between the sides - I guess it'll have to do for now. All the bolts will come apart now - maybe in the future .... It's a heck of alot better than the 2 broken springs before .... still have to install the trans, transfer case and new clutch line and see how everything works ( or not ) ...
