im new to the site and have a question about the abs light coming on.
02 f250 superduty xlt lariat 4x4 crew cab 5.4 133,000 mls
about a week or so when on the highway with the cruise control on the abs light would come on , speed gauge would go wild and the cruise would go off . at first once in awhile, now at all speeds and through city driving .
i bought the truck 12/05 with 50,000 mls . 1/06 i had a bad accident and the electrical hasnt been the same since so i dont know if anything is related .
had 2 instrament cluster changed ,light for the factory installed alarm/starter not on any more , door ajar stays on , interior lights stay on ,outside lights for keyless stopped going on last summer , overhead display goes dim when the headlights are on .
i went to auto zone/advance auto to get the codes and they both said no codes showed up ,that i need either the check engine light or the abs ,or both at the same time to get a code .
i havent crawled under a truck since the days when 4 guys can fit under the hood to do the timing and electrical scares the crap out of me .
sorry for being so long winded .figured the small details might help.
any help would be greatly appreciated,or should i get an exorsist
It could be the ABS/Speed sensor on the rear pumkin. You need an ABS reader to check the codes on this sensor. It's only 15 bucks and very easy to change. See if you can find someone to read the codes to confirm your problem. Good luck.
Get it tested if you can. My Abs lite came on then the next day the speedo went crazy and the trans shifted kinda crazy. Turned out to be the rear ABS sensor. It's located on top of the rear pumpkin and is easy to change. They can be had at most local parts stores. Good Luck
I would check the inside fuse panel and GEM mounted behind it check for water leaks.
Sounds like a truck i worked on and it was due to the GEM shorting out from water.
if you do find water then check the windshield, sunroof if you have one and cab lights for leaks.
Change the center sensor on top of the rear axle first, period. I could tell you the story about the work truck superduty I bought cheap with the abs light on, check engine light on, the speedo not working, the od light on the shifter flashing when driving and the transmission shifts shifting hard and not at the right rpms. When hooked up to a code reader, the codes were cleared and would reappear 1/2 second later. It was diagnosed as a bad trans , the abs unit bad, and engine sensor issues at a local repair shop. I saw the truck there sitting for a couple months, inquired and got it dirt cheap. Maybe $25 or $30 later changing the sensor myself after reading this forum for years, and every light and issue was solved. Basically you could say I legally stole the truck cause of the mis diagnosis.
i had the speed sensor changed about a week or so ago and that seemed to take care of the abs light coming on . the mechanic said that there were pieces of metal attached to it and maybe start thinking about some rear end work . being low on funds i decied not to open it up yet . now when i drive it seems to feel like "its skipping a tooth " with a low rumble sound mainly at highway speeds .any thoughts would be appreciated
