Glowplug testing/reading

Ok so im in the process of testing my gps and so far i have 3 bad ones that measure from 53 to 1650. i also have 3 that aare measuring negative? yea i have checked each about a dozen times and the negative ones measure from -2.5 to -.8 and i dont get it. so i was wondering what this means, are they any good? and i have been trying to get to the drivers side back two but the damb turbo boot is in my way and wont come off so i get to the plug.
so i gave up for now cause my knees are killing me from leaning over that engine. ohh and i saw that the boot is kinda tore up where the clamp goes onto the turbo so i might need a new one, any ideas where to get one cheap? and advice would help alot thanks guys.

Is your ohm meter reading 0 when you touch the leads together? That's weird getting a negative number. I can't think of any other reason than your meter is having a bad day.

For the turbo boot did you remove the 2 10 mm bolts holding the big aluminum piece in the middle also and then disconnect it from the crank case breather? It's easiest just removing the whole thing.

I would honestly just replace all your glowplugs while you have the covers off. No sense in doing 3 now and 5 more in 4 months or whatever. If they are bad, Replace them all.

For the turbo boot, here is a good replacement. I have it on my truck and it works and fits well. Silicone 45 Degree Reducing Elbow 3-3/8" to 3" 1820102C2: Intake Hoses, IntakeTubing, and Intake Clamps

Does that one rub on that back valve cover connector or wires at all? I used to replace a lot of pigtails there on the first year trucks before they redesigned the boot to give it some clearance.

It rests on the connector, but my pigtails have tape on them so i have not had any problems.

yea i havent heard or read anything about ppl getting negative numbers, and i read that entire gp replacement thread at the top of our page. i disconnected the gpr and batteries that shouldnt affect it right?
and no i didnt remove that big aluminum piece didnt even think about it. and james thanks for the link i think i might get that. wish it had the groves on the ends for the clamp, but if u tighten down tight enough it still should hold i guess.

What are you using for ground when measuring GP resistance? With glow plugs use engine ground or battery ground only. Almost sounds like you are using center ground on the plug which is for measuring injectors ohms only. Using the wrong ground you can get negative numbers as you indicated.

yea that stupid boot gives me no clearence. and james i want to replace all the gps but i dont want to increase the chance of something giong wrong with the more i tear into it. because thats usually my luck, the more i do the more that goes wrong and more money i end up spending lol. so i was just thinking of doing the bad ones right now along with the gpr.

no im not using that i thought about it but it didnt make any sense to me. so im just using a screw or one of the engine loops for lifting the engine out and kinda cleaned that up to get a good one. i tried a few different places to make sure the ground was good and i was getting accurate readings.

Are you unplugging the harness and only measuring at the valve cover connector?

Two outer pins with battery ground will show GP resistance. Next two inner pins with center pin as ground will show injector resistance. Is this what you did?
