So truck is an 08' 4wd scab with the 5.4. It has a 2.5" leveling kit and 35x12.5R18's for tires (old ones were 325 60's). Now when in 4wd, and only in 4wd there's is a clunk/poping noise that happens when you are accelerating/under load intially, and it will occasionally continue if you are under really heavy load (IE stuck in the mud trying to get out type of thing).
I've checked everything for loose bolts by hand (I should get under there with some wrenches and things and try it again) and have found nothing, when the drivers front beaing wen't bad I checked out the cv's and old hub and all the parts, and there were no signs of the hubs engaging/disengaging. There are also no tears/rips in the cv's boot either.
I'm running out of ideas on what to check, and i'm just curious if anyone has any suggestions other than going in and tightening everything again (truck was in an accident about a year back, had the entire front end apart to replace tweaked and damaged parts, this is when i installed the leveling struts-rancho's to be exact). Now it didn't do it before the leveling struts were installed.
Have you checked the drive shaft. I do not have a 4wd but I had a clunk noise on takeoff almost like an engine mount loose or something. Could not find the source then I read this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...lete-stop.html This was my problem. The shaft was trying to slip as the truck squats and the torque applied it binds and makes the noise. Just an Idea agin I don't have a 4wd but I understand that this is common on many ford trucks. You mentioned that it started after the wreck/lift I wonder if the slip yoke repositioned on a part of the spline with little grease. Just an Idea. Good Luck!
Humm I'll check that out, but doesn't make much sense with the front shaft as the amount the slip yoke moves would be just a millimeter or two, unless something is loose. That said when this first started I took it to the local dealer and they actually replaced the front shaft saying the slip yoke was loose, never seen the old shaft so don't know how bad it was, but it did fix the issue for a bit, but not for long.
