2011 F250 vs. F350

As always, I continue to search/research possible trucks, what can I say, I like trucks...

Went to a dealer today and looked at the F250 and F350, Crew Cab/Short Box configurations. I don't really need a F350 but I much prefer its look when compared to the F250. I know, they're the same body and generally look the same but the stance is different. The F350's back end is like 2.5 inches higher than the F250. Looking at the leaf spring suspension, they look identical to me (the F350 has a helper spring but it doesn't change anything when unloaded). Both trucks had 20 inch wheels, same tires and the FX4 option.

So, where is he going with this you will ask? Well... why is th F350 higher? I tried to search for suspension replacement online to see if there was a difference and can't seem to see one, yet the trucks just don't sit the same way. To all of you experts, why the difference?

Yeah, cosmetically the 250 and the 350 are the same, except for the rake, which does make the 350 look more serious. Different strokes for different folks I guess.....

In a short answer, the F350 gets a 4" block and the F250 has a 2" block I believe.

There is a spacer block between the rear axle and the leaf packs. The one on the 350 is about 2 inchs taller than the one on the 250

So it means I could get a F250 and ask the dealer to replace the spacer block and voila... the stance I like on the truck I need. Thanks a million for your answers.

Unless your dealer is going to be nice and change your TPMS settings I would get the 250 so you do not have to run 80lbs in rear tires. My dealer is being difficult with me but I am working on it. Just another consideration to think about.

Well at least in Ohio if you go F350 (1 ton) you are going to pay more for your yearly license plate renewal. Maybe something to consider especially if commercial plates.

Will the stock 250 u bolts on the rear axles accomodate a 2"in taller block? or will those need to be replaced as well.

I'm not saying you are wrong. I just know that the past models of SRW F-250/350 trucks are identical besides a block in the rear and badges. They may have been showing the Dually axle which would be rated higher thus bigger, same with the Dually spring set up. Just as Ford does with a lot of advertising is show the best components of each model and the DRW version of the 350 would have stronger, larger, and more appealing parts. Again not saying you are wrong but I have read in the SuperDuty Tech Folder about the differences between the SRW trucks.....and there is none, according directly from Ford. But things may have changed for 2011. Interesting to see if this is the case or not.

Wrong on all three counts, TheKid1.

The diesel engined trucks get hydroboost. Gas engined trucks have vacuum assist.

Spring choice is dependent on GVRW, not model. You can see the same springs in an F-250 or an F-350 SRW.

No, the F-250 and F-350 SRW both have the Visteon (Sterling) 10.5 rear axle and the DANA-60 front axle. The F-350 DRW gets a different axle,
