I wonder if anyone has the same problem passing the State Inspection because of exhaust fumes. Every year I have to pay a garage to fix the problem. I have done this for the past three years. Any suggestions or feedback on why my truck fails every inspection and I have to pay an average of 135 dollars to fix the exhaust problem. Thank you for your continued help.
Which gas are you failing with? I always do the seafoam treatment (in the intake and the gas) before i take the test, and i always pass with flying colors.
What engine, year and what state info will help to figure it out.
1991 5.OL V8 OHV 16V. I live in Texas. Bren_tx, I just fill up with regular fuel. Please explain what the "seafood treatment" is and what you mean when you say "in the intake and the gas" As you can tell, I do not know anything about most of these things but your patient and understanding is appreciated. Thanks

Reason: adding info.
its not sea food its called seafoam. i add it to my gas its a treatment for gas and oil...its not too pricey but next test try filling your truck with mid-grade fuel and add seafoam...im guessing you should pass

I understand and will add this treatment next time. Thank you very much.

You should always have an oil change done before you go in for a smog test, and make sure it's up to normal running temps.
I had forgotten this. About three years ago a mechanic said for me to run the truck for at least 30 min prior to going in for an inspection. The truck sits for weeks and is only used when helping friends or when I buy a large item. Guess when a vehicle is not driven and only sits, a lot of things can happen. Thanks.
Yeah run some Seafoam or CRC G2P in it on the tank full before its time to do the sniffer. It will clean stuff up some and help. I don't think you want to run it in the tank during sniffer though. Definitely make sure its warmed up really good. Drive it around for a while and drive it a little hard that should help. I always change my oil before going in too.
