Just got some bad news on my 350 Passenger van with the 5.4 in it. New Engine! At 15000 miles started having a real bad knock and using oil. I could see it at 15000 miles but not brand new. Did an oil change last week and it was a quart and a half low on oil. Checked it this week with about 1000 new miles on it and it was a half quart low. Come to find out there were metal shavings in the oil when we changed it.
Dealer says main bearings are gone and the rings and/or lifters are shot. I do not pretend to be a mechanic, but know it is not a good thing. Also don't know if this fits with the kinds of problems that you folks are discussing, but my point is, there appears to be some build issues with this engine.
Fortunately everything is warranty and I should have my van back next year. LOL.
Already on it. The dealer is replacing the engine under warranty. It should be ready NEXT YEAR. You should have heard the service rep use that old line. He really thought it was funny.
They aren't going to be sure till they pull the old one out and put the new one in, but he said there were some known issues with the cam shaft "implementation" is what he said. Sounds like double speak to me.
But they said there was a loud knock in the engine. I just thought it was taking an extremely long time to get oil up into the engine.
