Spark plug blown out

My wife's 01 Escape 6 cylinder 2 wheel drive has blown out a spark plug from the same socket for the second time. We think the socket may be stripped. We've tried to put a new one in but it won't go. I've heard of a kit to re-thread the socket but I've only found them available for Triton engines. Does anyone know of a good remedy for this problem? Thanks for your help!

Stripped threads in the spark plug hole are not at all unheard of. Helicoil kits are available that can be installed without taking the engine out of the vehicle or removing the cylinder head. Here is a link to a Youtube video that should help give you an idea. YouTube - 1 of 2 Ford Spark Plug Thread Repair Auto Repair (I dont know that I would use an air ratchet to make the threads but it should show you what it involved)

My wife's 02 Escape popped a plug and the local garage put in a helicoil kit for minimal dollars. It was an easy repair for them.
