I am currently looking at buying an excursion. I found one i like that is a 2000 4x4 limited powered by the 7.3L, has 225k. The guy is asking 9700 for it. I know the engine is a good one and because the X was so limited I didn't get to know them much but after ready a lot of threads about them they sound like a great vehicle. i currently own a 2007 expedition EL and want the suv but want my diesel. Is this a good price for the vehicle, and how much longer can i expect it to last. It does have 2 recalls out on it 1: camshaft postition 2: speed sensor. those will be fixed for free though. any help on this, thanks.
Don't be in a hurry to buy, ask questions of the seller and poke around in the truck. As for the recalls, there is good evidence to suggest the CPS recall may adversely affect your engine (just search this for for CPS and read all about it). The speed sensor- make sure that is all they do!
Price? Use nada and kbb, then call your bank and give them the VIN. They will tell you how much THEY think it is worth. Starting point, at least. Finally, call your local Ford dealer with the VIN and ask them to run an OASIS report. That has all the warranty work done on the vehicle. It is a good history to use as a price negotiating point.
