Or is it my standard "take 2 aspirins and call me in the morning" fix?
the ficm controls the injector timing and it needs signals from both crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor. if either sensor fail to give a signal the truck wont run. but it will not set the check engine light as the diesel have a different emissions system then a gas engine.

Geeze, I need to file this in the electronics / electrical fixes file cabinet.

I deal with a lot of wiring / connector / electronics / software / glitches.

Thanks

Basically it says if you have no FICM sync it's limited to the circuit between the FICM and PCM AND the CMP sensor circuit from the PCM to the sensor. That's why I'd check that circuit first. Sometimes the o-ring on the sensor fails and oil contaminates the connector giving a corrupt signal. That would be an easy temporary "fix".

yes you are correct but i checked the wiring for any chaffing none. plus you have to unbolt the powersteering bracket to get at the sensor for the 60 bux for the part i would rather just replace it while im in there to inspect it. If it still has a loss of signal then i will just rewire the circuit.

I didn't have to remove anything to get mine out but the retaining screw. The wire is a shielded wire in the harness to keep from corrupting the signal. Not sure that it's really repairable. There is a way to test the sensor to see if it's good--"X" number of Hz IIRC. Maybe one of out good tech's will pop in and post it again.

FWIW--I'm NOT saying the sensor isn't bad, it's just very very rare on a 6.0 plus you can get a CMP code from a stall event. I had the same thing happen with my 04 and never did find the problem. It simply went away on it's own. You have diagnostic tools I didn't have and seem to have a plan. I was just trying to save you $60 for an unneeded sensor. Please let us know what you find.

yes you are correct i was just reading some posts about replacing it and its looks i can get right at it with out removing anything. The software that i have makes it pretty simple to diag. If it was a short or damaged wire it SHOULD show the code as open ciruit to or from the cam sensor. but im accually getting a sensor fault code witch means its sending power to and from the sensor but not getting a reading. but as soon as i get outta work im going to replace the sensor and report back lol
