I had this posted in a different thread, but didn't get any response, so I decided to try a re-post. This info is in reference to a 1968 Crewcab I bought the other day. You can see initial pics in my previous posting.
Here is the warranty plate information. Can I please get a de-code? Thanks.
F25BCD54003
WB Color Model Body Trans
149 E F254 281 B4 ( I think; my ink smeared)
F250+= F250 4X2
B= 300 I6
C= Ontario Canada Assembly Plant
D54003= Built July 1968
149= Wheelbase
E= Sky view blue
F254= 6900lb GVW
281= Med blue interior, pickup
I believe B4 is your axle code (4.10 Dana 60), I think your trans code is missing.
DSO= 74 (ordered by Seattle District) 0651 means this truck was specifically ordered by dealer
Thank you for the de-code. The PO's story (and I have no reason to doubt him) is that this was one of 150 crewcabs special ordered by the Scott Paper Company for use up here in Washington State in thier forestery holdings.
He claims that they had some "advanced" features not available on regular 1968s. I don't see any evidence of that. In fact it seems pretty Spartan; doesn't even have the cigar lighter.
The manual transmission is a four-speed but unlike the one in my 66', reverse is Right and Forward on the gear pattern. Does this narrow down the tranny?
Thanks for the tranny I.D. I got a good read on its application and history at this site: The Borg-Warner T18 & T19 Transmissions - Novak Conversions. I am tempted to pull the engine (300 I-6) and tranny to put in my daughter's 66' Ranger as I am a I-6 lover.
Have already put quit a bit of effort into rebuilding her 352 to a 390, but that was just because it already had the FE in it and I didn't have a I-6 at the time. Hmm... something to think about.
Bill,
I am SOO glad to see you back! I hope you are feeling well and have a great New Year. You bring a lot to this forum as I am sure you know. Anyway...just glad you were able to return.
