Fixed my Horn Today!

I found out what was wrong with my horn today, it was missing a fuse! I'm not sure how that got by me, but anyway, I slapped a 10 amp in there and she is good to go!

What I am disappointed in is the loudness of the horn. It's not what I expected from a full size pickup. Has anyone replaced the horns with something from another vehicle so it stands out a little more? I want the fool in front of me to know I'm there!

Yeah.... Well, kinda....

Sounds like you have just one horn under the hood? Down by the radiator near the wiper
fluid? Ford had an option pack that included one additional horn that got installed behind the
bumper. With two horns, one is a high note, the other is low.

I actually have three installed right now but I don't remember the mix of hi & lo tones. It
actually sounds kinda crappy and I don't recommend doing it.

At one time I had installed two from an AMC/Jeep Cherokee or some such, that was based
on having heard one on the street somewhere and I liked how loud it/they seemed.

I don't have cruise control so that means no horn relay, just direct wiring.

ctubutis, same here. It has two horns, one high and one low under the bumper, but still sounds weak. I know this is blasphemy, but I like the sound of the horns on the 2000 to 2006 Chevy Trucks. I may have to rob a set out of the junk yard on the next run and see how well they work out.

thanks for the dual horn explanation. i noticed two on mine a while ago and thought a PO installed an additional one. the one behind the bumper is pretty rusted out but must still work ok because the horn sounds "normal" to me.
