I'm going to a 351w from my 302. Will I be able to use the same ac compressor bracket, power steering pump and bracket, alternator bracket, ect? I think the heads, timin cover, and water pump are the same so I don't see why it would be a problem but I want to make sure. Thanks!
I can't say for certain without knowing exactly what year and model you're working on, but in most cases, yes, they are interchangeable. The only external difference between the motors geometrically is the deck height. That puts the heads about an inch farther away from the water pump. Some bracket assemblies (especially serpentine setups on the left side of the engine) bolt to both the head and the water pump. Ford accounted for this on most of them, though, and had two sets of water pump holes in the brackets for either engine.
most truck brackets have both holes for 302/351 engines. if you are trying to use mustang(fox body) brackets, you wiill need a changeover bracket for it. eddie
I had to use my brackets from my 81 351w to my 89 5.0, and I had to do some modifications. Nothing too severe though. The alternator had to be shimmed around a bit, but the power steering bracket I had to add a hole and cut one of the corners off that was interfering with my after market waterpump. Also I had to add a chamfer to and flip the plate that was on my head that the long power steering pump bolt went into, so that the offset went the other direction due to the change in deck height. So it's definately do-able, but may require some redneck engineering.
