My speedo bounces around until I reach about 25 mph, then it smooths out and performs fine after that. I have replaced my speedo cable and the gear that go's into my trany and still bounces around. Kinda drives me a little crazy
Anyone have any fixes on this issue??
Make sure the cable is routed as smoothly as possible.
Other than that the speedometer might be gummed-up.
I had my speedometer out a few month ago while I was re-wiring my whole truck with the painless wiring kit. The speedometer wasn't or didn't look like it was gum'ed up. it looked in good shape for being 30 sum years old. Although when I installed my new speedo cable I didn't think about smooth routing. I'm gonna go check it tomorrow. Thanks
i dont mean to hijack the thread but where is the speedo gear hole on a np 405 4-speed? My truck was missing a cable when i bought it (due to motor swap). I got a cable but idk where it goes in the trany.
Well first of all it's an NP 205 (just FYI), and to answer your question, the hole for the speedo gear and cable is on the drivers side of the output "neck". The thing that sticks off the back of the T case, with the rear drive shaft coming out of it. Looks like Aluminum.
