Hey everyone just thought I'd join the almighty OBS PS team. My name is Jason. I bought mine about a 5-6 weeks ago in GA, I live in So. IN. Black & Silver CrewCab 4x4 4.10 gears. Stock with the exception of the auto tranny rebuild with a kit (was unsure if I'd like this when I bought it....but I do ) when I bought it. I since have put a tymar down pipe with 4" diamond eye exhaust, as well as a tymar air intake system. I also put new ball joints, wheel bearings, rotors & brakes on it. Left to do for now is put the rough country add a leaf up front to level it a bit and new 315/75/16 this will all be done next week. I see in the future a new steering gearbox too. Any ideas where to get a new not rebuild one? That being said I read about the redhead box but kind of pricey.
Note to everyone the downpipe was a pain the ****. To both remove the restrictive stock one and install the new Tymar one..... but worth it 4sure.
Yep, welcome to fte. Tymar is a good company to work with. I got the 3-4 inch downpipe and I thought it fit quite nice with a couple notches in the firewall/floor seam. I do agree though, it is a pita to get the old one out sometimes. Anyway, sounds like you're getting caught up with normal repairs needed to be done. Hang around, lots of smart guys on here to learn from.
Can't help you with the steering box, never dealt with one yet on these.
Welcome!
Another member said it best, something like, you won't get jumped on here for asking questions, but we'll come beat you up if you don't ask, then do something stupid.
Before you buy the rough country add-a-leaf also look into the Sky Manufacturing RSK (Reverse Shackle Kit) for the front end. It'll lift up the front a few inches and help it ride a little better, about $250 last time I checked...
from one jason to another welcome abourd man! this site will help you in every way you will need! o and on the rough county add aleaf let me no got 2 brand new ones i wont be useing
I don't think you will find a NEW gearbox. I had the pleasure of changing mine recently.
Best you can do is a custom rebuild on what you have. Another option is a rebuild one from the autoparts store; if you go that route, find one with a lifetime warranty.
While you are in there, be a good idea to swap the pressure hose, too.
