Rotators

I had extra intake springs laying around so I decided to get ride of the rotators and use the longer intake springs and intake retainers on the exhaust valves(E7 heads). Now that I have them on I notice that the install height on the exhaust valves are .100 inch shorter. How much will this effect the motor? Should I go back to using the rotators? I tested the springs and the original intakes were 110 lbs at install height. The ones I put on the exhaust were 108 lbs at the original install height. Now that they are compressed another .100 inch I would figure they are closer to 120 lbs now. The heads are off, so it would be easy to take them out and change over. Anything I am missing? Am I waisting my time trying to get rid of the rotators?

The rotators serve a useful purpose, which is to reduce the chances of valve burning, and equalize stem wear. So they are a good thing to have unless you are revving pretty high when their extra mass will cause the valves to float sooner.

If you drive over 5000 rpm a lot of the time and notice valve float then it might be good to delete them.

If I remember correctly, the retainer groove is in a different location on the exhaust valves versus the intakes to accomodate the rotator. TrickFlow makes a set of springs and retainers designed specifically for Ford heads to eliminate the rotators and give you stiffer springs. Is there a particular reason that you're trying to eliminate the rotators?

Thanks. I was just playing around. I had the parts and thought I would give it a try and reduce the mass of the rotators. So from the sounds of it, you guys think I should keep the rotators. So, do you think the .100 less install height the way they are now would make any difference?

I'd speculate that the intake valves are heavier than the exhausts, so taking weight off of the exhausts might not be so effective as it might seem.
