Thoughts, please

Take a look at this Craigslist 1964 F100. In the first picture, of the engine compartment, what is that rat's nest of wires and connectors by the master cylinder. Electrical 101???

CLASSIC 1964 FORD F100 SHORT BED, Registered & Running!!! Buy me

Looks like somebody rewired the truck using their own system. I believe they also stepped up the 302 with electonic ignition looking at the distributor. Probably something there as well. I'm glad I hid my wires when I redid under the hood...

I always look with a skeptical eye, whenever I see an older vehicle without the period ca. license plates. The truck looks like a ***** with too many customers.

Looks like he's from California, so he probably found out he had a short circuit in his electrical, and took out all the wires and made them longer!

If I bought it, I would look into and repair that mess before I drove it too far. Putting smoke back in wires is really hard and costly sometimes. It is better to fix somethings before they go bad. Buying even a aftermarket harness and putting it in, is not that hard and I think they only cost around $200.

That is actually $400 more than mine cost and all the wiring was untouched. An original San Jose truck bought in San Jose.

X2 ^ I love the marrettes he used to join the wires together.

Being an electrician I see some funny stuff all the time, my attitude is "electrical is like lulu lemon anybody can wear it but not everybody should" but hey anyone can do electrical.

Other than that I love the interior and the nice floor shifter.

All the bed time stories I'm told of California Trucks; I pass on that one and fine one better maybe even for less!
But I guess bad wiring for out west is better than rusted cab's (Mount's, floor, beds) where I'm from.

tbm3fan I found out about another place on line who sells reproduction harnesses with original connections and lay out. I am not sure of cost but it would be just plug and play. Narragansett Reproductions - Wiring Harnesses and antique car / automobile restoration supplies. Merry Christmas

dman 2008 So being a Electrician you know the first rule is never, ever put two bare wires in your mouth at the same time

I'm about to bring home a fairly low-mileage original 66 that is totally unmolested in the wiring dept., however, one of the first things I'll do to it is put a new harness in it.

IMHO, once automotive wiring gets to be more than 40 or 50 years old, it is suspect.
