ok had problems with auto hubs
took it in and they replaced with warner supreme manual lock out hubs,
switch for the 4x4 in the truck is not doing anything.,,, checked the fuses
all are good ...so i went under and replaced transfer case motor purchased new from auto zone,
still nothing so i returned the motor thank god 200 saved. ok now if i remove transfer case motor and put it in 4x4 with cresid wrench and lock the hubs it works fine, so i know the transfer case is okay,, and if i re install the motor and
plug it in it reads on the dash 4x4 like it should... and also if i put it into 2wd with the switch ,,,it returns to 2wd like it should. but will not go into 4x4 with the switch? so i know the motor is getting power because it goes into 2wd from dash. what can be causing this ? any help would be great thanks alpine.
Do you have manual hubs or auto locking hubs... The switch on the dash activates the transfer case and then send a signal to the vacuum soleinoid which sends vacuum to the Auto locking hubs... But if you replaced the hubs with manual hubs you need to manually turn your hubs to lock the front axle...otherwise the transfer case will spin the fron axle but the hubs will not engage..
no thats what i was hoping,,, how do i test it? also is there any relays that maybe are bad?
someone posted about relays under hood but as i understand they are for trailer lights thanks
There are 2 relays for that motor on the t-case. One for each direction. If the motor works one direction but not the other, find the relays under the hood and start there. Swap them and see if the problem reverses.
As thomabb describes, there are two relays that activate the 4WD shift motor. They are a common failure point.
They are usually in a relay box on the drivers side firewall towards the rear of the vehicle. It will be the only relay box with two identical relays and nothing else. As thomabb says, swap the relay positions and see if the problem reverses.
