2.9 for 72 Capri

Putting some feelers out.Looking for some info. I need to build a 2.9 litre for my next project car.Does any one have any specs on how much horsepower you can get out of a 2.9 fairly reliably. I need to come as close as I can to a 72 Group 2 Capri. They were running 320 horse out of a bored out 2.6 which was about 2990 ccs by the time they were done.8500 RPM. I realize this is asking alot from this motor, but I had hoped for about 260-270. Will be running 11.5-1 Compression. Will be manufacturing my own 3 weber dual throat carb setup.Any known speed parts that could help would be great. Crank, rods etc. Thanks all for your input.

I have experience with Capris having owned a number of them and built two 2.8L V6's for performance. I have also owned a 2.9L Ranger.

There are few performance parts available for the Ford V6. In Europe the engine you want to copy had special Weslake heads that were nothing like the stock heads. That is the main bottle neck on these engines, the cylinder heads! I think with stock head modified as much as possible you might see 250 hp, but 300? I don't think so.
Since your into Capris I have to assume that you belong to the Yahoo Groups for the German Capris. That is the most active site for Capri lovers/owners on the web. One of the best suppliers of Capri parts is Team Blitz. IF you haven't contact Norm there then that's what you need to do if you hope to accomplish what you are saying you want to do.

Thanks Jimbbski for the input. Right now I have a 72 ferguson 4wd capri a 73 turbo capri and a 73 Daily driver. I just picked up a 72 to make my Group 2 replica. I realize that the heads were Weslake and although they are still available new [7000] dollars they are made to fit the 2.6 block of which only 50 were made.{there's the problem] I am looking into the viability of creating a cologne V6 that would come as close as possible to the weslake motor as compared to the 2.0 litre pinto engine which I could probably get 220 out of if I needed to,but the group 2s ran the 2.6 which was bored out to approx 2.9 litres, therefore my closest option would be the 2.9 litre ranger engine. I do know Norm and have bought parts from him over the past year, but this is new territory. I have talked with him alittle bit about the project. Maybe 250 horse would be alright as long as the motor would hold up,but I know nothing about the reliabilty of these motors as the horsepower climbs.Has anybody seen upper 200s with this motor? Thanks for your input.

You might want to check out the tech section at The Ranger Station.
The Ranger Station - Technical Library
It may help with some of the info your needing.
