Hello I have a 1979 F250 with the 300 six. I installed a rebuilt 1barrell carb a few weeks ago. Since then I have been having a problem with the truck not running right. It seems to jerk allot expesically when the motors cold. To see if it was the carburetor I put the old one back on and the problem seemed to stop.
My question is since this is the first time ive ever repalaced a carb. Is this a problem with the new carb or do I just not have it adjusted right?
Check the throttle shaft in the rebuilt carb for slop. It's a commonly overlooked/ignored item with commercial rebuilds as it requires drilling and installing a bushing along with a new throttle shaft.
I replaced the carb because it was in bad shape and the choke was broken. As it ends up I took it for another drive and the jerking/bucking is still there but not as noticible. I will drive it cold in the morning and then I will be able to tell for sure. It may not be in the carb but im really not sure what it could be. It has new spark plugs and I checked the wires and had the tranny checked.
Well if you swapped the carb back to the old one and the issues went away, you have a carb problem. Are the carbs identical or by different manufacturers? Do you have all of your vacuum lines connected correctly? Are there any open ports?
The problem is much less noticible but it may still be there with the old carb back on. They are both carter carbs, the new one was rebuilt by holley. I believe the vacuum lines are connected correctly and all open ports are plugged.
