I have a 2004 F250 SD 6.0L it has a ccv oil catch mod, i went outside to drain it today and when i did first it looked like yellow water was coming out of it, after it stopped draining i smelled it and it didnt smell like diesel but more like oil.
i havent had to add any coolant in over a 3 months sence the weathers been getting colder but during a crosscountry drive pulling 5k in the summer i had to add about a liter of coolant a day
I used a hose that would fit the factory fittings on the intake and engine, it was suggested in the kit. and for low spots the only low spot is on the hose that goes to the intake tube, there are no low spots on the hose running from the ccv to the oil trap
The ccv still runs from the crank to the intake it just makes a extra stop in a bowl where the oil is dropped off at

I had the same issue this summer, not long after discovering this, my coolant degas bottle was puking coolant from a head gasket leak. End up pulling my motor and replacing the head gaskets. If your truck pukes coolant, I would be looking into EGR and HGs problem.
Last fall, I replaced my EGR cooler with the BulletProof EGR cooler because it was leaking. This summer, my truck started puking coolant again and over heat while pulling a 6000 lb boat up any grade. This fall engine came out because of bedplate oil leaks and Head gasket problem. I would make sure its not your Head Gaskets as well or else you will be like me tearing into motor twice.
I have a new EGR cooler from bulletproofdiesel but i havent gotten around to putting it in yet
There are lots of posts on EGR cooler failure here.
Park the truck with the front down, pull the EGR valve and see if it is wet in the bottom. If it is you need to replace the EGR and the engine cooler hopefully before you do any damage to the heads.
Do a lot of research on this site under 6.0's. Bad EGR is easier to figure out then the head gaskets. First thing i would do, is go to Napa. Buy an exhaust gas tester. Its a test that tells you if there is exhaust gasses in your coolant. Cheap and takes a few minutes to do. If exhaust gasses are present, follow the instructions on this site to rule out the EGR cooler. If that is negative, I would plan on doing the head gaskets.
Lets not jump to any scary conclusions here. I mentioned the above because you could be burning some coolant, and it could be from the EGR or head gaskets. And you said you haven't used any coolant in a while, but you did use some last summer, towing, and I assume it was hot. That's not very unusual and can have various causes. You didn't say whether you had drained the CCV since then, or if this was the first time. So we don't know if this was the result of that coolant loss. We also don't know if it puked that coolant last summer, or if it disappeared out the exhaust. Those are things you need to consider further, and let us know the answers too.
I definitely think you have oil mixed with water. But like bismic said, it could just be condensation, especially since it is cold outside now.
Yes all the towing was done in 100F and up. it did not puke except once when my wife overfilled the overflow, other then that never. and i did not install the ccv oil trap until this october, its the 2nd time ive emptyed it. And im 75% sure the fluid lose came from the egr cooler thats why i bough the new one.
