4x4 help

i have a 1995 f150 with push button 4x4 and it works occasionally when i hit the button and the 4x4 light will not go off unless i shut the truck off. I was wondering if this could be in the switch or is it more complicated than that. thanks in advance

i know most of those push button 4x4's are vacuem opperated so id check for a vacume leak or if the engaging fork was bad. it is usually on the front axle.

Nothing vac operated.....not yet.

Before turning the key off take a hammer and tap the shift motor, vibrate it some, as someone pushes the button and while it shifts, if it completes the shift, the 4X4 light goes out, you probably need to clean and lube the old motor or replace it.
Also make sure your TC is full of Mercon trans fluid, not gear lube its too thick.
