I would not take a penny less than 15k for the truck in my sig. it is the cleanest finest specimen OBS you will find anywhere. no rust nor bubbles like over the wheels on most OBS trucks for sale. I wouldnt sell mine anyways its just too bad ***. good luck finding yours though. mine originaly came from florida. had like 45k miles. I was looking at this absolute POS 2001 Superduty when I found this one. it was a no brainer
come down to florida, they are cheap here!! My truck literally looks like it came off the showroom floor, its a 97 4 door long bed dualie with 156,000. stole it for 6500
i wouldnt take less than 10 for mine..its the CLEANEST ive seen here in NH. Most are all rotted out or heavily rusted..Mine doesnt have a speck and has 133k on it. I had people come look and say "wow what a clean OBS, Will you take 8k"? I get back in shut the door and drive away.....
However people are asking 5 to 7k for trucks with rusted out, and SHOT beds, bad cab corners and repairs needed...I just dont know how many of you feel the same. I dont want to offend anyone, but jesus, after the RUST BUCKET i looked at this weekend, and the guy was offended when i told him, it wasnt worth half of his askin price..
After seeing a lot of replies to the OP's post, I think there are MANY of us out there on this forum with some REALLY nice OBS Powerstrokes. The previous poster that said he wouldn't sell his Florida OBS for less than $15K, I'd have to say he'd be asking a fair price; I wouldn't sell mine for less than I paid for it simply because I don't think I'd be able to find a comparable truck that I could trust as well as mine for anywhere near what I paid.
Now considering the rusted out shell of a truck the OP said he looked at, I'd only consider something like that for a parts truck for $2K or less, and that would be assuming it was a low mile engine! I have ZERO tolerance for rust and thankfully there's not to many rust buckets on the west coast.
My recomendation to the OP is that you start looking at places where salt isn't used, like the south or far west coast. My truck lived on the Oregon/Washington coast until I bought it it, and it still doesn't have any rust! I would have been willing to drive at least a thousand miles to pick up my truck for the same price, and if I could have gotten even a better deal for the equivalent truck, I would have easily doubled my trip for the find...
Keep hunting - you'll eventually find a good specimen that meets your demands!
Another thing that contributed to finding a decent truck at a decent price was "Craigslist Grammar". Most every keyword in the ad was misspelled. Searches on F250, F350, Diesel etc wouldn't work. We found the ad going page by page instead of using the search engine. This isn't the first time I've found vehicles at a good price that way either. And thank goodness the ad didn't say "must sale". Arrrrrgh.
Don't be affraid to drive a few hundred miles to find a nice one for a good price. I'm out here in California where truck prices are still pretty outrageous. But I spent some time looking and eventually found my Beast (99' 250 7.3L) 350 miles south in San Diego for 9K.
Thanks for the remarks. I live in an area where salt is used around a 150 mile radius, now some small bed rust doesnt scare me, but I want a solid frame, and sound substructure of the bed. I have "parts" vehicles, but I wont pay top dollar for something that is gone, . I got spoiled last year, when I found my now WRECKED 96 F 250 super cab, 8' bed 4x4 with auto 5.8 and XLT for 2000 bucks. the bed had minimal rust, and it ran great, i stole that truck in terms around here.
