E4OD is eating fluid! need help!
I have a 92 f150 with a 351 which is running to an E4Od. The transmission only has about 72,000 miles and is eating transmission fluid. I have put 4 quarts in the past month, and i have checked everywere and i have no leaks. i need help fast because im tired of buying transmission fluid all the time. I just changed the fluid in the summer too. Any bodys help would be appreciated.

check your transfer case fluid level. if it is way overfull it is probably leaking into the t'case. if so, there should be a seal between the trans and t'case, which would require removing the t'case to repair. if not that, look at your coolant to see if there is an oily film in it. if there is, you have found the problem. this would probably require radiator repair or replacement. hope this helps.

I dont know if this will help or not. I have an aerostar and it did the same thing. There were no leaks and it ate fluid. I ended up replacing my transmission on an all wheel drive and it was very expensive. According to the mechanic, it was some cheesy little 20-25.00 part called a modulator. Something caused it to end up being sucked into the exhaust. It was going right out the exhaust pipe. Hope this helps, bobby

im not positive, but i dont think the e40d uses a modulator valve. it is electronically controlled. i have, however had that happen with a chevy transmission in the past. (th350). the modulator had an internal leak which let the engine vacuum suck the trans fluid right through it and directly into the intake manifold.

It doesnt use a vacuum modulator, so Racerguy is right with the only two places it could really go.
