to new idi owners reading this thread;
your reading the #1 reason most people with IDI experience will tell you to stick with motorcraft glow plugs only.
hell yea!! gonna sound like a 10 gauge shotgun went off under the hood, as you see the glow plug tip going through the hood on it way into low space orbit, and then the god awful racket like you just blew the engine.
A guy told me he was changing some glow plugs when he found 3 of them to be stuck due to ballooning of the tips. He said he unthreaded them, disconnected fuel from the pump and had a buddy crank the truck over while he pulled with a set of vice grips. i don't know if this would be my preferred choice but it worked for him.
Im just glad the po's Autolites came out of my 1990 without a problem, now I have 8 new Beru's so I can sleep easy....

eBay has a split nut extractor tool for $50+ or you can go to Lowes or home depot and buy a 10M 1.00 nut and cut it in half. Hold it in place with a cheap box end 17mm or 11/16 that you cut off with a 1/2" or 3/4" stub (If you are like me, you have 2 or 3 of these in your tool box). Place on exposed threads of stuck glow plug and back it out. Keep adding washers under the nut till its all the way out. Works like a charm and saves $50. LOL
