Sometime's I drop the wife off at the store then go park & guard the truck & watch the girl's go by.....
Bet where you are from, summer is probably a bit easier to do that than now! I grew up in Buffalo, winter was the worse for that kind of guarding activity!
I also have to fold in the mirrors to get in the garage. I can actually get it in without but I have like an inch on both side, too close to try to do it everyday. As for parking, try a cc longbox with a plow on the front,

You'd be at fault if you drove out of 'your' parking spot into the path of normal traffic in the lot too...
I think the point is that he could see better while driving out of a spot rather than backing it out, therefore negating the likelihood of backing out into something or someone.
