Got a problem need a little advice
The next morning, made arrangements to have the truck towed to a mechanic for diagnosis. Started the truck to see if it still had oil pressure. Truck started fine, idled fine. Let the truck run for about 10 to 15 minutes, still no noise. Raised rpm to about 2000, still nothing. Still unsure, I had the truck towed to the mechanic. They stated the engine needed to be replaced. He said they let the motor run for a while and it started knocking. He also said he drained the oil and there was metal in the bottom of the pan. First off, the pan has not been removed. Second, if there were peices of metal missing from an internal part, it would seem to me that there would be constant noise.
I talked to a ford mechanic friend of mine, he said oil pump failure wasnt likely. He had only replaced one in the past 4 years though it couldnt be ruled out.
Any help would be appreciated. Looking at new motors to the tune of $3000 doesnt help any.
Let me know what you think.
