GPR cycle time

Just did the GPR LED mod, and I am curious to know how long the LED is supposed to stay on. Mine stays on right at a minute (stopwatch). Is it a timing thing? Does the GPR work the same whether the engine is hot or cold? Just need to know for some odd reason.

It can stay on for up to 120 seconds. It depends on the oil temperature. In the summer it may only be on for 30 seconds, but when cold it will be the full 2 minutes.

I think it's easier to go to Walmart and get one of the little plug into the cig. lighter or accesory plug, volt meter gizmos. Tells you everything you need to know plus the voltage while all this is going on.

No thread from what I have seen. I bought a $3 12V LED at Radio Shack, comes with a 6" pair of leads. All you do is run the negative lead to a good ground, then the positive lead with a piece of 18 gauge wire to the GPR glow plug post. I went ahead and mounted a inline fuse just in case voltage decided to stray where it shouldn't.

Here are some pics!

Looks like a picofuse. What value did you use?

Seems anything over 25 ma or so could do it.

Why not take this mod to the next level and trigger the GPR with a manual N/O push-button switch instead of the PCM?

Kwik did just that, and could give a report as to its effectiveness.

In the forum serch, type in
"The GPR LED Mod as made famous by WMRiceman" Gives you a parts list with item nubers and everything. I do like the way woodnthings put the wire in the existing wire loom. It also looks like he put bigger wire on the LED which would make making that conection easier.

PS. If I can do the MOD, anyone can

The fuse holder I used was a ATC blade type. I think I put in a 2 amp one, which is way bigger than the power requirement, but was something I already had.
