ignition coil testing

so my chiltons manual tells me that the primary resistance should be 0.3-1.0 ohms, (between +-terminals on coil) mine reads 0.6 good. secondary test is between - terminal and hi-voltage output should be 6,500-11,500 ohms, mine reads OL, bad right. Seemed simple enough till i bought a new coil from autozone and while building up my go outside in the cold nerves, I decided to check the new coil and got the same readings. So you figure I'm the lucky winner of autozones bad part inventory? Or do i need to check the secondary ohms on a 2k scale? that reads 8.06. I have a fluke 116 meter only bout a yr old.

Unless you have an auto ranging meter, you will need to set your meter to the correct limit. 2K won't read 6K. OK! Actually, you should be reading ohms to check the coil. Do you get the same reading from the tower to both terminals?
