I have a2004 f250 4x4 I rebuilt the motor and ended up loosin the crankcase vent box.... so for now I have small air filters on the holes of the crankcase... is thuds bad thing to do and if so what can I do to change it? I've priced the boxes and a little pricey... but if I can make somethi g work for a fraction of the price I will.... any ideas
On my 2005 there is one crankcase vent tube, under the coolant tank, that feeds into the air intake. Is this what you have lost? A breather filter on the valve cover is not going to hurt. It may make a little mess when the oil starts to drip out. What you should check is the air duct to the turbo, is this open?
You can do a simple down pipe, which will still drip, or add a filter which will be a lot more than a visit to the junk yard or probably even Ford. The advantage of the filter is you don't suck oil into the turbo and the intake.
Try PartsGuyEd and see how much he wants for the tube. www.partsguyed.com
I've heard he is very helpful.
