Backup ALARM, not chime help
If it's that loud it sounds like it would be easy to find the output device (speaker/siren) and run your switch from there.
So I will be tracing it back into the cab unless one of you fine FTE members know which wire it is and where it runs. Pulling the fuse will be a good short term solution as long it isn't coupled with a needed accessory.
New unit,
same question.
I was thinking I could turn it on/off from the console.
If I need upfitter, then I would like instructions also.
I wanted this for safety, not camp ground use
(I know there are kids there, but, backing my trailer into position late at night, when my wife is doing safety outside, I don't need it)

For me, a simple on/off is all I need.
If I need it for safety, then, so be it.... as opposed to being somewhat safe

If not then off...
OK, Fine. Where is the speaker, anyway. On, under, or near the bumper? It should have a identifiable hot wire running to it.
Here is the site for the Ford Truck Body Builders Advisory Service. This link is for the electrical Customer Accessible Circuits. I don't know which one is the one you need, but it identifies all of the ones I've been wondering about that are stubbed out under the steering column.

Sounds like a post Christmas project.....
Wife has me booked up
and snow this weekend...This is something I need to get done before spring.
Thx
I will be tackling it over the next couple of weeks. I will be looking for the wiring this weekend and then go from there to see how to shut it off via a switch. It would be nice if the upfitter switch could be used but there is a linkage to the reverse gear that needs to remain intact and it already has its own power. And I definitely want the switch in the cab, just can't picture myself climbing under the truck in a snow storm to throw a switch.
What I think is funny is that this alarm is so LOUD that it drowns out the reverse sensing alarm. I can see how someone who works around them all day can get punchy.
For those of us who do snowplowing it is a great help letting people know we are backing up. I can't tell you the number of times the backend of the truck is covered with snow and my backup lights aren't visible.
Hopefully when Ford gets to see customer feedback, they will realize that these are multi function vehicles... plow by winter, road warrior by summer and that flexibility is needed.

I figured that there would be a fuse that I could pull until I got around to putting an inline switch on it. Figured wrong I did! I cannot locate a fuse for it. Nothing in the manual, nothing I can see on the fuse panel. Anyone have this option and figured out where the fuse is (praying that is an isolated fuse)?
MOD
Your not going to find the backup alarm listed in the manual or on wiring/fuse schematics. The reason being is the alarm is a "accessory" that is installed post production at the KTP Mod Center building rather then on the line. Basically the same as a "dealer installed accessory". This is also the reason that you do not find the same level of integration (i.e. on/off, changeable settings, etc) as you do with many other options.
Probably won't be able to provide an EPIC quality production, but at least some thoughts on how to tackle it.
With this accessory Ford chose to release it at the factory level first, so it has not made it to the dealer level just yet. Once released to the dealer im sure the instructions will be available...
If you pull the fuses for the customer access listed above at least you may be able to find the circuit its on.
If you can identify the circuit it is on then you may already have access to the wiring in the cab to put a switch in.
I'd try this before tracing wires.

Mystery partially resolved...
Ok, I took one for the team and dragged my large butt under the truck. Here is a picture of the Klaxon. The good news is that there is a connector there that can disrupt power to it. The bad news is it looks like it is getting its power from the rear end somewhere (my hand with the screw driver picture).
