Okay frustration is getting to my limit. I have had the truck in my sig for two years now. I started out getting 17-18 mpg, and then I added all the things in my sig to see if I could get 20 mpg, but instead my millage has gone down. For the past three months I have gotten 13-14 mpg, and I seriously baby my truck. I hardly ever go over 2k rpm and usually keep the boost to no more than 5-8 psi, usually less, so I don’t get it why has my mpgs gone down so much.
Recently I replaced the fuel pump, the glow plugs, and the gpcm. I keep the DP on econo 80 almost all the time. I did also change the CPS to the black one, some six months ago.
Any ideas on what to check? I did have the codes scanned and the injectors buzzed and no problems there. I am at my wits end. I can't figure it out.
How many miles do you have on the engine?
Couple of things come to mind. I like Izzy's suggestion to clean the EBPV sensor and tube. I would also check for boost and exhaust leaks. I think leaking up pipes can hurt fuel mileage. Another possible leaking point is between the two halves of the turbo, those 4 little bolts can come loose and in extreme cases fall completely out and you'll have a pretty nice leak there. Look around for soot marks.
Around 244k miles my injectors were on their last leg and the mpg average for the 4 tanks prior was 13.7 and the 4 tank average immediately after the injectors were fixed was 15.7 mpg.
Lately I've been averaging over 17 mpg since I installed the black CPS from Riffraff so that seems to help as well.
My tube was too far gone to fix... it was packed hard and cracked at that. I read the sensor with AE so I know it was still good. Post up your results!
I cleaned EBV tube and sensor today, but it wasn't that bad. It definitly wasn't clogged.
New symptom, I have had a lot of white smoke on start up lately, and today I had some blue smoke for a good 10-15 seconds. What could that be? burning oil? (temperates are still 34-38 degrees morning starts)
So my questions is is there anything else I should check? My mpgs should be better than this for my driving habits. Thanks
