I really wanted to rebuild my 79 400, but I can not find a pistion over 8.0:1 this really stinks so I,am looking for other options for this 79 4x4. I DO NOT want to go with the "Cleveland bush pistion" so what choice do I have? maybe a gas hungry 460? Looking for low RPM torque. Please somebody HELP!!!!
Can't understand why you would give up on the 400 but thats your choice. 460 is an excellent engine also. Shop around and find yourself a rebuildable engine and order a 460 conversion kit from L&L for $1100 and you'll be off to a great start!

As far as pistons go your limited to 4.000 .. with a comp. height of 1.687.. Look at all the pistons out there I know there are some Mopar pistons that are close and you could possible find some GM also .. the only mod you'll have to do to them is Flycut a valve relief in a differant spot for the Cleveland style valve.
Try this www.landlproducts.com I haven't done the actual swap but follow the threads from people that have. Perform a search on the subject or go to the 460 forum and you'll get plenty of replys.
You can private message me and I will give you some info about a guy who says he can still get the flat tops.....
I just built my 400 with flat tops (btw guys I got the little distributor thingy fixed.... I need to post that) and it runs great but requires high test.
Im driving it daily and I gotta tell you now that I have it I wonder what I wanted all that power for? It just breaks the rear end loose when I hit it.
Unless your racing or something I dont think you need the high compression pistons.....I wont never build a daily driver this way again.
Dont get me wrong, Im real happy with my motor. It will pull hard and accelerate like a rocket in any gear. I just think I have learned a lesson in what I truly need and desire from my truck and flat top pistons were not the answer.
OK everyone here look at the posting about Blowers.
I didn't know they made a blower for the 400/351m..
You guys want Some kick butt Horsepower here's the answer.
