While driving the other day I heard a loud bang under the ex. went back and found the rubber bump stop on the drivers side had rotted and fell off. After inspecting the passenger side it looks like it is about to fall off . I went to ford and found out my 2002 is $50 per side and if it were late 2002 and later it would only be $25 a side. Sorry but that sounds like a load of crap any input on aftermarket replacements? Because I dont mind spending money to keep my equip in proper running order but I dont want to be taken advantage of doing it!
I just replaced the front bump stops on my 2003 4x4 with some generic Energy Suspension stops. They have a single bolt (as opposed to 2 bolts on the stock stops). When I removed the basses for the stock stops (the stops had rotted off) there was a single hole in the middle of the frame, so the ES stops fit perfectly with no modifications. The Energy suspension stops that I got are shorter than stock, so there is a little more travel before they make contact.
These are the stops I got, but in black. They are smaller and harder than the stock stops, but so far I have not had any harsh bottoming and I know they have made contact because you can see the marks on the springs. Only 10 bucks for the pair! Energy Suspension 9.9101 Bump Stops - 99101
They are much stiffer. I was concerned they might have a hard hit, but so far that has not been the case. I would guess that the stiffness difference is similar to the stock rubber vs. Energy Suspension polyurethane sway bar frame bushings, if you're familiar with those.
I bought those to replace the rear snubbers on the leaf springs. My factory ones rotted and broke and I was getting some axle wrap. I think I will buy them for the front as my factory ones were destrpyed before I put my X codes on.

Were these used bc they r shorter than the oem ones? I just did a search for my 4x4 ex on there and a different part number came up that looked bigger.
the stop in the pic only has about an inch of clearance from the leaf above. is that average? also the gap between the stop base and leaf above appears about an inch less on missing stop side? so if a stop were present it would have contact (or real close). for ten bucks from energy suspension im gonna replace it anyhow. and the es one is a lil shorter so i should be good.

That particular bumpstop is on the 'traction' or 'slapper' bar. In theory it helps with leaf wrap under load/acceleration.
After 10 years mine looked the same as yours. You can get replacements from many sources with a single bolt attachment. Easy do-it-yourself fix, night have to jack up the rear end to pop out the old rubber and slide in the new.
