you can shoot for a higher static CR (9.5 and up) if you o-ring your block-to-head surface. an o-ring along with some copper gaskets and you'll have a stout seal there (headgaskets are a common failure area for any compression boosting method be it a blower, a turbo, or NOS)
after that, you need to make sure your rods don't come off your crank, and your mains do let loose. ARP bolts and reconditioned parts would be fine...aftermarket forged rods and a cross drilled-4bolt mains would be better.
the Big 1/4 mile guys can start with 12:1 CR and have the blower or NOS on top of that.... it's all in how much $$ you want to spend.
You are only talking about 7 psi here not the 14-21 races use. I know blowers can make it tough on an engine but the 351 and 400 engines are pretty tough buggers. they can take quite a bit of abuse and keep on going. I think ford made a mistake when they killed these engines.
does nany one here think that a polished and balanced 400/351m rod would hold togther under that pressure?even if it had 8.8-1compression and arp rod bolts???
As far as I'm concerned it doesn't really matter how you make 800HP. N/A, blown, nitrous, or nitromethane, the block and crank get the same load. I'm investing alot of $$ in a blown stroker so it's going to have custom 4 bolt caps, ARP studs and girdle. If it breaks, at least did everything possible. Honestly, I think more than 7psi is needed to make 800HP.
So Brian how's your stroker coming ...getting any closer ... I hope it never comes apart once you get it together.... But just so you know I'm still interested in your crank if you ever decide to sell it .
You'll be the first to know if the crank goes up for sale. I'm sure Sonny Bryant could make you another one for about $3K. Why do you want it, I thought you said 800 HP was too much power already? Poor guy.
Nothing major to report, I got a lot of irons in the fire. I got a D7TE block. I think I found a way to increase the deck height by .3-.500" for almost nothing. Intake manifold adapters are going to be custom anyway. I may as well get the longest rod I can fit. What's a good compression height minimum for a blower piston? 1.4"
How about some home made screw in sleeves and a siamese block. Maybe a 4.185" bore-more later.
Let me know if anyone finds an internet coupon for those ARAO heads. They're gonna love me, the first thing I want to do is mill their letters off the valve cover, like they did to Dominion. How about a BS instead?
Hey Brian: I didn't say 800 H.p. was to much power ... I said I was having trouble getting my 800 H.p. to the ground ..
Over the winter months I have done some modifacation to my Drivetrain to help get the power to the track.I'll keep you posted to how it works out .
But as why do I want your crank .. well it will make me a 460 out of my 400....And Yes I probley could have one made from a few crank manufacture out there. But hey You already have one ..
