4x4 Ranger ?
2002 4.0 Ranger 4x4, used the 4x4 high in the snow. Removed from 4x4 and it does not inticate in 4x4 on the dash but it is still in 4x4. Put in reverse and backed up to make sure that it disengages. No luck still in 4x4. Anyone have any clues?

remove and reattach all electrical connections on the transfer case. Check for operation.
If no:
manually operate the transfer case sector shaft to the full clockwise position. Does the front drive shaft rotate? If not check repair to transfer case.
If yes, using a torque wrench manually shift the transfer case to 4WD HIGH (counterclockwise) position. Did the torque required exceed 45 Nm (33 ft-lb)?
if yes, repair transfer case.
If no, apply the parking brake, does the front drive shaft rotate?
If yes, repair transfer case.
If no, install a new gear motor encoder assembly. If still inoperative install new 4WD control module.
If no:
