dump beds and conversions?

Anyone got a dump bed on their truck, either flat or a box?My '78 F250 had one,a flat bed, I think it was converted shortly after being bought. I plan on adapting it to my S-Cab with a 8' bed. Just wondering if anyone else has anything like this and how is it done? mine has a hyd. pump run by what looks to be a starter motor. I'm going to try and run it off a pto maybe.I'm only going to try because I have the stuff and well why not, it'd be pretty cool.

Running it off of a pto should be easy...provided the SC is a 4 speed truck. I Have a 76 f350 cab and chassis with an 8 x 12 Knapheid contractors box and hoist.

FYI:...I don't recall the name of the company but there's one out there whose kit uses a mounting plate, compressor, hardware, and a big ol' air bag to tilt the bed. I think I saw it highlighted on Spike TV's Trucks! show.

I have one on my 93 that is twin cylinder. Its has an electric over hydrolic pump. I like it much better than my old one with the pto on the trans. IMO it free's up the trans for something else.

well its not a 4pd....yet.. I'm trying to decide if I want to change it to one(i got 2 complete setups) or wait and do a 6Bt/NV4500 which is the way I'm leaning. I thought the pto went off the tranfer case? I like that twin ram setup, mines a single big *** piston with a scissor type hinge that mounts in the middle of the frame. My plan is to buils a 2x2 or 2x3 SQ frame and weld it to the bottom of the bed, then raise the cab/nose mounts to match- not a body lift but actually cut the mounts off and raise them.

I have a nice flatbed to put on that white truck. I like the twin cylinder because I can still safely pull my gooseneck horse trailer. I have a single cylinder unit that was on an old 1-ton of mine. I was thinking of using that one on my skidsteer trailer. We'll see thought. Heres the flatbed that is going on the white 93.

thats kinda what my plow truck looked like when I got it. I wish I knew more history of it, she was definatly worked hard her whole life. All I really know is she was used to push snow for about 10 yrs before I bought it and at some point got a reman engine put in,which luckily seems to have been well taken care of. Hows the gooseneck attach with the dump bed? Doesnt the hitch attach to the frame through the bed? I haven't really thought about it but would a dump bed stop me from pulling a 5th wheel camper, thats the same hookup as a gooseneck right?I'm trying to make a plan for an all around do anything pickup.

Akforceten, that looks exactly like the type of lift I have. You think adapting it to a std. 8 foot bed is doable? Any problems you see, personally I cant think of any that a welder and good ole american ingenuity couldnt take care of

no problems, my truck started with a 8" bed . the kit i bought is good from 8" to 12" long beds . its an weld on kit so you can do anything with it . i had the guy who made the flat bed install the dump kit . it has a reservoir and electric motor mounted to the pass side frame rail . i got a up and down switch mounted in the cab . it was one of the best mods i have done to the truck.

Speedfreak - Thanks.. We love it out here.

A gooseneck hitch is a 2 5/16 ball to the frame, through the bed. A 5th wheel is similar to what a big truck would have. Also frame mounted. If you have a center mount cylinder you won't really be able to frame mount your hitch. Thats what I like about my twin cylinder. The frame is completely exposed and all I have to do is build a small door over my gooseneck. I don't pull a 5th wheel so I don't have to worry about that. BTW... the pic of the white truck I posted above, the bed is only about 1/2 way up. It goes up quite a ways. I just didn't have it all the way up.
