i have a 96 I6 fuel injected 4.9L
i looked at the driver side door post to find out what type of trans it has all it says is E
i know its an automatic 3 speed with overdrive; none of that helps me though with replacing it my chilton manual doesn't cover this year.
It would have to be the E4OD, as the AOD went the way of the dodo bird back in the mid/late 80's.
Another tell-tale sign of the E4OD is the little OD off/on button in the end of the shift lever.
i have decided to scrap the truck, i am not scraping the motor, trans, or transfer case i am planning on cutting the front off the truck and pulling it as a unit.
(the reason behind this thread is my f150 is beyond repair and i have been having trouble finding necessary information for a project i am starting i have a very small budget and only one shot to get everything right, the plan is to take the I6 and put it in a jeep cherokee)
-the jeeper's i have been talking too have some mixed feeling's
what i cannot find anywhere is how to properly pull the wiring harness for the EFI system,
Furius...if your scrapping the truck I want the shift linkage, everything from the end of the column (under the hood) to the shift lever on the trans, including all bracketry and hardware...let me know if your interested and how much you want. Thank you!!
Don't forget that you will need a speed sensor for the rear end,and you need the one for your year, engine and all that.I don't know how you intend to deal with it,but it will be needed,so at least pull that with everything else.
Speed sensor is in the rear axle housing, center top, above the ring gear.If you look at the rear axle center top,you will see it,has a wire running to it.My nephew changed the rear end in his '95 and forgot to put the original one back in,truck ran like crap.
The speed sensor does double duty. It tell the ECU how fast the vehicle is going, as well as the ABS computer.
I don't know if it would be able to be used, but my son's 95 B2300 (ranger with Mazda badge) has a speed sensor in the trans, where the speedo cable hooked up on older models. Just a thought worth looking into....
thank you about that sensor, i just purchased a Haynes manual for this year truck.
i do not like how it is formatted, i was wondering where that sensor you mentioned was i been having trouble finding it,
looks like i took on a little bit of a challenge pulling this motor, trans, and transfer case
everything is electric there is wiring everywhere and i am going to need most of it
