hi, i have a 94 F350 with a 5.8L with a cherrybomb extreme. i plow, and for my winter job i haul trailers. what muffler should i get that actually has some backpressure and a little quiter so im not waking ppl up at 2am?
pretty much something that will give me more backpressure and more preformance.
I had a 5.8 then 393 in my f150 with Flowmaster 50 series mufflers, and it would set off car alarms...literally. My current 97 F350 7.5L has a true 3" single and I bought a Hooker Aerochamber...best of both worlds...great sound without a crazy tone, and a good solid design. Bought it on ebay for cheap!

Those two terms are mutually exclusive. You can have a muffler that is quiet, but still have less restriction than the so-called performance mufflers. The Hooker Aerochamber has been mentioned here many times. For myself I prefer the Magnaflow products.
Personally I do not subscribe to the "back pressure helps low end torque" theory. This can spark all kinds of debate. My experience with many different vehicles and my latest '92 F350 4x4 w/5.8L & E4OD transmission have shown no loss of low end power when installing a larger exhaust. Picking the wrong size headers is another story. There are valid arguments on both subjects. I will not get into yet another debate on it in this thread.
I did a Bassani y-pipe and 3" Magnaflow based single exhaust on the F350 last year. It made an amazing difference. I do not have empirical data to validate what my butt-o-meter tells me, but at the very least I picked up a few MPGs and I know I no longer have to floor the gas pedal to maintain 65 MPH in a strong headwind.
I did a smillar set up as rla 2005, i added hedman shortys with the magnaflow y with cats and a CBE, my setup did a awesome job on the hwy driving. if i had your work truck i would get a big Magnaflow, a dynomax ultraflo would work to!
You don't need backpressure , like rla2005 said , as long as you don't have big tube headers , ussally 1 1/2 primary tubes are good , 3" sigle exhaust is fine , mufflers are just a choice on sound , most good aftermarket mufflers flow about the same , chambered mufflers usally show a little more torque on the dyno while straight though mufflers show a little more HP , but its nothing you can feel ....Lew
I don't subscribe the the backpressure myth either. I vote for a larger case Magnaflow. If you want it to be really mild and still flow good, get a larger case Dynomax Super Turbo.
Do you still have the factory cat with your Cherry Bomb Extreme? I have a Cherry Bomb Pro chambered on my F250HD (5.8) with the big single factory cat and it's barely louder than stock. I think the Pro is similar to the Extreme, just larger case. It was pretty inexpensive from Summit.

I have shorty hedders with 2 magnafow cats and the extreme in freakin loud, i think i paid $48 from summit.
i just did long tubes, 2 magnaflow cats, duel pipes (2.5") into a 2 in 2 out x chambered magnaflow muffler... sounds awesome (not to loud). also did the "six liter tune up" and that REALLY woke the truck up. low end torque and throttle responce jumped right up.
I would like to throw Gibson into the mix. I have it on mine and it is pretty quiet going down the highway, and when you get on it or are towing a trailer it has a nice low grumble to it.

i dont have a cat at all, its a 3 to 2.5 single to dual with 3-1/2 tips. and it ****in screams, loudest truck around.
