4spd-5Spd
I have an '83 f-100 straight 6 4x4 4spd w/ granny and am wanting to change it out to a 5spd w/ granny for better fuel economy. Was wondering if there is one that will match up from another ford that I might just be able to find in a junk yard.

Both 5 speeds Ford offered have integral bellhousings and hydraulic actuated clutches. One was made by Mazda and the other was made by zf. Chances are whichever you choose, you will have to lengthen and or shorten the driveshafts, and the tranny will have to come from a truck that had a six, 302, or 351w.

You could get away with the M5OD for your truck since they came with them in the later year F150's with the 6cyc and 302. I have one in my 94 and I like it. She handles all the pulling I have to do with that truck and I pull a pretty heavy trailer.

Ditto. The Mazdog isn't particularly strong,and uses an idiotic annular clutch slave cylinder, and requires the tranny to be pulled just to replace it; it also has a very high reverse gear. The ZF has an external slave, and can be replaced with the tranny in situ.
