Title help needed!!!!!

Bought a 79 4x4 with a promise of title "next week". Next week has now become several months and I can no longer get in touch with PO (wont answer cell, texts, or home ). I wanna drive 'big red' legally so what are my options????? Not wanting to do anything illegal, just pay my taxes and license so I can drive my truck. FRUSTRATED!!!

Not to preach but I always demand the title before any transaction takes place......No title, no cash or other remuneration. Different states have different laws governing titles and proof of ownership. I hope you have a bill of sale indicating payment in full. Sad possibility is that he may not have title to the truck. I would start asking questions at the local tag agency or who ever handles vehicle registration in your state. I sincerely wish you the best luck in getting it straightened out.

Im going through a company that says they can title any vehicle as long as its not stolen or has a lien on it. I bought a '78 f250 supercab out of a junkyard for parts but turns out its in way to good of shape so im gonna fix it. because I originally was planning on cutting it up i never bothered getting the right paperwork, well any paperwork, i HAD a reciept that said "truck $300" but lost it. i just started the process, they say it can take up to 12 weeks to get it done so ask me in 4 months how it went...lol. heres the place im using GETNEWTITLE.com theres also another place i was lookin at cant remember the name just do a search for lost title or replacing title. Personally I'd pay the PO a visit with some friends...

Needless to say, a valuable lesson has been learned.

Looked into someonline title companies but wasn"t sure about giving my credit card # to who knows who. I wish I knew someone who has actually used one of these companies and got a title. Thanks for the website anyway speedfreak78. Might end up trying them eventually.

any other ideas???

Bought my truck with no title, registered non op to someone other than the seller. Went into AAA, told them i needed to transfer ownership to my name and needed a new title in the mail. Provided her with the License plate number and bill of sale. Got my title shortly after in my name.

so do you have a bill of sale? how about the previous registration? was it left in the truck? I know many states all you need is a bill of sale and previous registration to transfer ownership. If you have the bill of sale I'd look into what legal rights you have, see if there is any way to have the police( I hate getting them involved!) force him to produce the title or like I said go there with some big friends and politely inform him you want the title or a refund, just keep a level head until nessecary the PO Might have a legit reason for being unavail( family prob,health,etc.). I had this happen a few yrs ago, I bought some parts online,$1300 worth, well what I got wasn't in the condition I was promised and missing stuff, tried contacting seller for almost a month, was ready to drive over 1000 miles to "remedy" the situation when I was contacted by sellers family. Turns out the seller was terminal with cancer and died shortly after selling me that stuff. The family wasnt aware of any of the dealings( supposedly there were others in my situation with the seller) and unwilling to compansate. after a little reaserch I found out it was all true and the sellers estate was umm.. confisctated-for lack of better term- to settle medical debts, so I lost on that deal- rare but it happens. sorry kinda went off on a ramble... lol

This is good only until he wants to sell it to a savy buyer. Even then, the OP said he wanted to do this all legal.

Yep, take all the paperwork you have and find out how to do it right. A title provider company would be my last choice.

Not sure how is works in your neck of the woods but up here you can go to the local police department. Have them run a VIN check on the vehicle. It will tell them who the vehicle belongs to whether it be the indivdual or a bank (which is why you may not yet have the title it may of been something they needed to pay off to get title in hand and didn't)
if it is a bank, i would suggest going to them with the Bill of sale to get the ball rolling becuase the title means nothing to the bank if the "owner" does not possess the vehilce.
If the seller owns the vehilce outright, just apply for a duplicate title.

title

well if the truck has a history like it was stolen and he bought it out of a junk yard anything the police can confinscate it so your best bet would be to swap vins withone you buy oi n craigslist cheap or something because then it may not have a history

Talk to your license dept they might have a idea or suggestion who to contact company wise that may be able to help. I found a car lot business on craigslist that will do an in state title for $150 and $300 outa state.

And the car lot is about 1 hr from me, and FTR 77 bigboy on a 79 the actual metal vin will be on a dvrs door and on a sticker on the dvrs side door striker area.

Sometimes on the firewall in the center, on top, on a metal tab riveted there. And on the frame top side, down by the alternator, and under the passenger side seat on the frame on top again.

Our trucks do not have the vin like today vehicles up on the dash, last time I looked.
